Hipsway were the Scottish pop/rock band whose style has been described as 'whiten soul/funk'.

A band were formed around Glasgow in 1984 by ex-Altered Images guitarist Johnny McElhone on bass, & featuring Grahame Skinner (vocals), Pim Jones (guitar) and Harry Travers (drums). It were quickly signed higher by Mercury Records and by 1985 had discharged their foremost, eponymously-titled album. a album was a moderate profits in the UK, when the individual Honeythief processed Xvii in a British stock & index charts and as well reached the Top 20 in the The states. An additional song from either a album, Kindling, became easily-known within Scotland when the soundtrack to a McEwan's Lager commercial.

Notwithstanding a band failed to build in its profits; McElhone left to detected Texas, and per instance a 2nd album Scratch a Surface was recordeded, Travers got besides left (to exist as replaced by Steven Ferrera). Discharged around 1989, a album wwhen does'nt when critically or even commercially successful as its predecessor, & a band split shortly subsequently.

Skinner & Jones later went in to observed a band Witness.
